SEDATION

Sedation Info

Root canal treatment today is not a painful procedure due to modern techniques and anaesthetics. At JCV Endodontics we can offer inhalation and intravenous sedation. Sedation will be administered by a specialist anaesthetist.

INHALATION

Nitrous oxide, also referred to as “laughing gas”, provides a mild level of sedation and helps to relieve some dental anxiety. The effect only lasts while you are breathing the gas so recovery after the procedure is quick and your ability to drive home is not impaired. Since nitrous oxide gas does not react with any medication it has few contraindications. We still would recommed someone to drive you home.

INTRAVENOUS SEDATION

At JCV Endodontics we offer intravenous sedation for our patients who experience dental anxiety or a severe gag reflex. Short acting medication is administered intravenously to induce a dream-like state where you are unaware of any noise and discomfort during treatment. You will still remain conscious and breathe on your own, but will usually have no memory of the procedure. Make sure someone can drive you home.
